The expert spoke about compulsory medical insurance services available to Russians in 2026

Starting in 2026, citizens will be able to receive more medical services under the compulsory medical insurance system, including new types of medical examinations and therapy. The expansion of the list of services is aimed at detecting cardiovascular, oncological and other diseases. Olga Borisova, Associate Professor of the Department of Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia about this.

Less than half of the respondents turn to state clinics for help.

According to the expert, during the medical examination, patients will be able to receive additional tests and screenings, for example, HIV testing and liquid cytology of the cervix for women of reproductive age.

"Starting from March 1, 2026, patients will be able to receive therapy using new drugs, including gabalentin and baclofen. This will significantly improve the quality of life of patients and make treatment more accessible," the expert added.

In addition, the list of measures for vaccination and follow-up of chronic patients will be expanded.

"Citizens' awareness of the services provided is increasing, while the specific list depends on the region and is available on the websites of the territorial compulsory health insurance funds," Borisova said.

It will also be possible to receive high-tech care free of charge, including photodynamic therapy for bladder cancer, free conjunctival flap autoplasty and gastric laparoscopy.

Waiting times for medical care will remain the same, but may vary by region.

"Specialized care is provided for up to 14 days, research and consultations for up to seven days, planned hospitalization for up to 30 days, and emergency care for up to two hours," the expert said.
