Khabarovsk sentenced organizer of illegal caviar trafficking
In Khabarovsk, a court found the 44-year-old organizer of a criminal group guilty of trafficking sturgeon caviar, listed in the Red Book, and sentenced him to 2.5 years in prison and a fine of 500 thousand rubles. This was reported on December 11 in the official Telegram channel of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Khabarovsk Territory.
According to the investigation, in 2024, a Khabarovsk resident created a criminal group that illegally purchased more than 3 tons of caviar worth over 40 million rubles from August to October.
"The caviar was stored by the group members on the territory of the Komsomolsk-on-Amur production base, packed in plastic and glass containers. At the end of October 2024, bags with containers of caviar were loaded onto a trailer of a truck tractor and illegally transported to a site near the Khabarovsk –Nakhodka highway, intending to deliver it to Moscow and the Moscow region for further storage and sale," the department noted.
The evidence collected by the investigation was found by the court to be sufficient, while the organizer actively contributed to the disclosure of the crime and the exposure of other accomplices. This was taken into account when sentencing. Criminal cases against other band members continue to be considered in court.
Earlier, on December 9, it was reported that in the Kamchatka Territory, the police discovered an underground salmon processing workshop, where they found about 11 tons of products and more than 400 kg of caviar worth over 1.5 million rubles. The investigation found that the finished products were sold without the mandatory labeling of the EAEU, which confirmed their illegal origin.
