Experts have chosen "buzzer" as the word of the year 2025

The word of 2025 according to the version of the portal "Gramota.ru" became the word "buzzer". "Burnout" took the second place, "red flag" took the third place, the press service of the resource told TASS.

The shortlist of the campaign includes 12 candidate words. The winner was determined by experts from different regions of Russia using a rating vote: each participant could choose from one to three words.

469 philologists from 23 organizations in Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as Vladivostok, Vladikavkaz, Volgograd, Voronezh, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Kaluga, and others took part in the voting.

"The word "buzzer" became the absolute winner, it was chosen by 42% of the participants in the expert vote. The words "burnout" (38%), "red flag" (37%) and "prompt" (36%) also appeared in the tight top four," the report says.

On the same day, an international team of scientists, with the participation of specialists from the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), found that proficiency in a foreign language enhances working memory and increases automatism in solving complex tasks. It was noted that cognitive effectiveness is defined as the ability to effectively allocate mental resources while learning or performing tasks. It includes the mechanisms of attention, speech, memory, and switching between processes.
