Transferring money to a merchant's card in a chat or Telegram channel is a common practice, but it carries risks: a bank statement for such an operation may raise questions from law enforcement agencies. "You only see the card number and last name. You don't know what kind of person he is, what other income he receives and where he then transfers funds to, and you can't check," says Polyakova.

She noted that the buyer does not actually control the fate of the transferred funds: during the investigation of all incoming transfers, questions may arise to the cardholder if he turns out to be involved in the case of financing prohibited activities. The lack of cash or commodity receipts makes the situation worse — at best, there is an SMS or a line in the banking application.

"The fact of the transfer by itself does not confirm that there was a legitimate transaction. For an investigator, you are just a person who sent money to an unknown person," the expert explains.

Polyakova recommends paying in cash or through official terminals with a receipt.

"The cash register and the receipt are two proofs at once that you were a buyer and the seller was operating legally. In case of verification, these documents will save your nerves and time," she said.

If the seller insists on transferring money to a personal card, it's worth considering.

"It must be remembered that transferring money to a card to an unknown person can create problems and risk liability in the future," Polyakova concluded.
