Trump called Petro the goal of the United States in the fight against drug smuggling
US President Donald Trump has said that Colombian leader Gustavo Petro may become Washington's next target in the fight against drug smuggling if he does not take appropriate measures. He said this on December 10 in an interview with reporters at the White House.
"Colombia produces a lot of drugs, they have cocaine factories, and they sell it to the United States. So he better come to his senses, or he'll be next," Trump said.
Earlier, on November 4, it was reported that the Trump administration was considering several options for military action against Venezuela, including airstrikes on military installations, special forces operations to capture or eliminate President Nicolas Maduro, and control of airfields and oil fields. A decision on the implementation of these plans has not yet been made. The most radical measures are supported by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Adviser Stephen Miller.
Later, on December 9, it was noted that the United States was analyzing plans to launch a military operation against drug trafficking from Colombia and Mexico. The US President stressed that the administration is studying all counteraction measures, including military ones, to limit the supply of drugs to the country.
