A photo of a baby gorilla called "High Five" was recognized as the funniest at the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2025. This was announced on the organizers' website on December 10.

The author of the picture is British photographer Mark Meth Cohen. He said that he took the photo during an expedition to the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda, where his group came across a family of Amahoro gorillas. According to him, one of the cubs was "spinning, tumbling and throwing his legs high," demonstrating acrobatic abilities.

Cohen noted that it was "a great pleasure" to watch such games, and he managed to convey the playful nature of the little primate in the picture.

Earlier, on December 8, it was reported that the exposition of the "Most Beautiful Country" competition of the Russian Geographical Society was opened in the New Tretyakov Gallery. Among the best works were photographs of the foggy coast of Simushir Island, a sad seal and a hunting owl, and one of the main photographs was a shot of a snow leopard taken on the Chikhachev Ridge. The jury emphasized that the number of worthy works made the selection of winners especially difficult.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
