Radiy Ilkaev, an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, has passed away.
Radiy Ilkaev, honorary citizen of Sarov, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, director and scientific director of the RFNC-VNIIEF, passed away at the age of 87. This was announced on December 10 by Soviet and Russian film actor Alexei Safonov.
His life was inextricably linked with the history of the city, the national atomic project and the country.
Ilkaev worked his way up from an engineer to the head of VNIIEF, made a significant contribution to the development of theoretical physics and strengthening the state's defense capability. He was a full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of VNIIEF and the scientific director of the Institute.
For his services, Ilkaev was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, III degree, the Order of Honor, the Sakharov Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as state prizes of the USSR and Russia. He was also awarded the title of "Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation", he is a full knight of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.
Colleagues and residents of Sarov note that his energy and wisdom helped the city develop and strengthen the country's defense shield. Radiy Ilkaev received the title of "Honorary Citizen of Sarov" by the decision of the City Duma on May 25, 2006.
