A Russian woman suffered severe burns from a burning snake in Kenya.
A Russian tourist who was hospitalized in Kenya with burns to 40% of her body after locals set fire to a huge snake that crawled into the facility is undergoing her fifth operation. Her sister told Izvestia about this on December 10.
"The fifth operation is currently underway. During the dressing, doctors will look at the condition of her wounds. Based on this, they will decide what further actions to take — either skin grafting or just restoration," she said.
According to the woman, the victim feels better and can already communicate with her family. The Russian woman has to take strong painkillers and antibiotics, she cannot move independently.
The incident occurred on November 19 in the Kenyan city of Kisumu. A huge snake crawled into a local restaurant where the girl decided to have a snack. In an attempt to hide from the reptile, the Russian woman climbed onto a chair, and the cafe staff poured gasoline into the sewer grate to burn the snake alive.
"It was 35 degrees Celsius, and the gasoline fumes must have gone up, the sister immediately burst into flames," explained a relative of the victim.
Doctors are not giving forecasts about her condition yet. The girl's treatment will cost at least 1.5 million rubles in advance — checks for the corresponding amount have already been issued in two African clinics.
