In the Polish city of Mashevo, local authorities demolished a monument to Soviet soldiers. This was announced on December 10 on the TVP channel.

It is specified that the local authorities decided to demolish the monument due to the requirements of the Institute of National Security. The Institute considered it a "propaganda object" reminiscent of totalitarian regimes.

It was also reported that the monument was first erected in 1947. Initially, there was a red star at the top of the monument, but later it was replaced by a ball of concrete. The height of the monument is 2 m.

Earlier in the spring of 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Western countries and Ukraine had been falsifying the history of the Russian Federation for many years and demolishing architectural monuments associated with Russia. According to him, attempts by unfriendly countries to "drive wedges" arose when the USSR collapsed, and the growth of nationalist formations on Ukrainian territory was associated with the same period.

Also, as part of the fight against the Soviet legacy in Germany, the issue of renaming streets with Soviet names from the time of the German Democratic Republic is being discussed. According to the newspaper, the renaming process has already begun in some cities. The local branch of the Alternative for Germany party is trying to challenge these decisions in court.
