Russia will insist that the United Nations (UN) stop playing "one Ukrainian gate" and stop "Ukrainizing" the activities of its secretariat. This was stated on December 10 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the Federation Council.

"Of course, we will demand from the UN that it stop playing one—way games, in Ukrainian, stop Ukrainizing <...> the activities of the secretariat," he said.

The minister recalled the events in Bucha in the spring of 2022, when, according to him, charges against Russia were brought only after the arrival of the BBC film crew, and Moscow's requests for a list of the dead at the UN remain unanswered. Lavrov said that key political, humanitarian and peacekeeping posts in the UN secretariat, as well as "the lion's share of the budget", are controlled by Western countries, which leads to the loss of the organization's objectivity.

"We must still think about the future of the United Nations, so that, God forbid, it does not repeat the fate of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. — Ed.)," the minister stressed.

Prior to that, on November 25, Lavrov said that the UN's refusal to provide data on the incident in Bucha was tantamount to a confession and was a "disgrace" to the organization. The minister said that he personally addressed the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres during the annual sessions of the General Assembly, but was refused on the pretext of protecting confidential information. The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that such a position discredits an organization that publishes other data when it suits its interests.
