The Olympic teddy bear of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow will become the new mascot of the Russian national team. This was announced on December 10 by Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

"A new unified mascot of the Russian Olympic team has been developed, based on one of the most recognizable sports mascots in the history of our country and world sports — the official mascot of the Games of the XXII Olympic Games in 1980 in Moscow," said Degtyarev.

He also said that the future mascot is currently undergoing trademark registration with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property.

On the same day, the press service of the International Skating Union (ISU) announced an appeal from the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine demanding that Russian figure skaters Adelia Petrosyan and Peter Gumennik be suspended from participating in the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy.
