The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the threat of increased trade tariffs should not be used as a means of pressure on the country to force negotiations with Cambodia. This was reported on December 10.

Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeo stressed that Phnom Penh should be the first to de-escalate the conflict that has resumed on the border of the two countries.

"The issue of Thai-Cambodian relations should not be linked to tariff negotiations or used as a tool of pressure on Thailand in order to return us to a joint (peace) declaration. These are different topics," the minister was quoted as saying in an interview with the RIA Novosti news agency.

Earlier, on December 8, Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anuthin Chanvirakun announced that the country was suspending any negotiations with Cambodia until Phnom Penh fulfilled the conditions for the cessation of hostilities. He noted that Thailand has demonstrated its position and does not intend to allow violation of its territorial integrity.
