El Sol de Mexico announced a ban on the sale of vapes in Mexico
The Mexican Chamber of Deputies has approved a reform of the general health law, completely prohibiting the production, import, export, distribution and commercial sale of electronic cigarettes and vapes. This was reported on December 9 by the magazine El Sol de México.
"Acquisition for the purpose of marketing, preparation, production, mixing, conditioning, packaging, transportation for commercial purposes, storage, import, export, trade, distribution, sale and supply of electronic cigarettes, vapes and other similar systems or devices is prohibited throughout the country," the publication says.
It is noted that the reform provides for strict sanctions for violating the ban: imprisonment for a term of one to eight years and fines from 11 thousand to 250 thousand pesos (from 50 thousand to 1 million rubles. — Ed.) . At the same time, the law is specifically aimed at preventing criminal prosecution of individual users, and responsibility falls only on those who intentionally use devices for commercial purposes.
Lawmakers supporting the reform stressed its importance for protecting public health, while the opposition expressed concerns about the possible development of a black market and insufficient funding for the healthcare system.
Earlier, on December 3, it was reported that a group of State Duma deputies submitted to the lower house of parliament a package of amendments providing for a complete ban on the turnover of vapes and all types of nicotine-containing liquids in Russia. The draft states that it is proposed to ban the retail and wholesale trade of nicotine, including synthetic, its derivatives and nicotine salts.
