Russian entrepreneurs who have been sanctioned by the European Union have filed lawsuits against the EU for more than €50 billion. This was reported on December 9 by the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, citing a report by the European Coalition for Trade Justice (ETJC).

According to media reports, Russians are increasingly using the Investor-State Dispute Resolution Mechanism (ISDS) provided for in international investment agreements. The report notes that there are currently 28 lawsuits filed by Russian investors, of which 24 involve the ISDS procedure.

"At least €53 billion has been declared. This is close to the amount spent on European military assistance to Ukraine since 2022," the publication says.

According to Le Soir, 13 new trials were opened in 2025 alone. ETJC experts warn that such lawsuits are becoming an increasingly common way for businesses to respond to sanctions and asset seizures.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Euroclear depository, which manages assets worth €16 billion in Russia, warned of the risk of their loss in the event of the confiscation of frozen Russian funds in the EU. The company's management noted that such a decision could increase legal risks for investors and negatively affect the attractiveness of Europe for investments.
