When making a monetary New Year's gift to relatives, you should specify the exact purpose of the payment, for example, "a gift for the New Year." This will help the bank determine that the transfer was made free of charge, Vadim Vinogradov, Doctor of Law, Professor, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Law, advised on December 10 in an interview withГазетой.ги ".

"A one-time transfer is not considered a regular operation and does not raise questions from regulatory authorities, even if the amount reaches several tens of thousands of rubles. For close relatives, the size of the gift is not limited by law — family legislation allows financial assistance within the family without any limits," he said.

However, if a gift is given to friends or other people who are not close relatives, the bank may have suspicions about the purpose of the payment. For example, artificially dividing a large amount into several small transfers can lead to the operation being blocked.

"For transfers exceeding 100 thousand rubles, the bank may request a comment, and if the transfer exceeds 300 thousand rubles, then supporting documents, so the most reliable way to protect yourself is to draw up a written donation agreement. Such a document serves as universal proof of the legitimate nature of the transaction for both banks and tax authorities and provides legal protection when conducting transfers of any volume between individuals," Vinogradov said.

If a money transfer falls under the control of regulators, it is worthwhile to inform the bank in advance about the planned money transactions. Moreover, during the holidays, many organizations can offer a simplified procedure for sending the relevant notification.

Earlier, on December 8, Russians were told about the most popular New Year's Eve fraud schemes. Scammers often use fake websites that mimic well-known online stores, offering unrealistic discounts of up to 90%, cheap gift sets and urgent countdown promotions. There are also widespread messages on behalf of delivery services about the need to pay again for an undelivered parcel. In addition, the attackers send out notifications about non-existent debts or fines.
