- The WSJ reported on the EU's doubts about a quick settlement of the conflict in Ukraine
European officials believe that agreeing terms between Russia, the United States and Ukraine on key issues could take weeks or months unless major changes take place on the battlefield. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal on December 9.
"Many European officials have privately stated that disagreements between Russia, the United States and Ukraine on key issues could take weeks or months unless major changes occur," the report said.
The publication notes that Washington insists that Ukraine accept the peace plan developed by the United States, while the goal is an agreement acceptable to both sides. The main stumbling blocks remain territories, the possibility of potential NATO membership, and the use of frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine.
On the same day, it was reported that Ukraine would soon send its and European objections to the American peace plan to the United States. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kiev had already discussed the results of negotiations in London at the level of national security advisers of European countries.
Earlier, on December 8, it was reported that the envoys of US President Donald Trump, Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, gave Zelensky several days to make a decision on the proposed peace agreement. The Ukrainian leader informed his European colleagues about a two-hour conversation with the American side, after which he asked for time for consultations with the EU. Sources noted that Washington expects to speed up the process and reach an agreement by Christmas.
