Austria pointed out the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions for the European Union
The introduction of anti-Russian sanctions eventually caused more damage to the European Union (EU) than to the Russian Federation, and led to a decrease in the influence of European countries on the world stage. This was announced on December 9 by former Austrian presidential candidate Gerald Gross on the social network X.
"After 19 packages of sanctions, Europe's economy is suffering from its own consequences more than Russia, and we are turning into a pawn between the United States and Moscow," he wrote.
The politician noted that the current situation is a political bankruptcy of "unprecedented proportions."
Earlier in the day, Guillaume Elie, Director General of the financial risk depository, said that Euroclear, which has assets worth €16 billion in Russia, risks losing them if the frozen funds of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation are expropriated in the EU according to the plan of the European Commission (EC).
Earlier, on December 6, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that since 2022, the economies of European countries have suffered losses of up to € 1.6 trillion due to anti-Russian sanctions. The ministry stressed that despite "unprecedented measures" of economic pressure from the West, the Russian economy continued to grow. At the same time, anti-Russian sanctions have caused serious damage to their initiators.
