A future Russian mission to Venus will be aimed at finding markers of life on this planet. This was announced on December 9 by Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In his report, Krasnikov spoke about the national technological leadership project "Development of space Activities for the period up to 2030 and for the future up to 2036," of which the federal Space Science project is a part.

According to him, one of the planned projects is the Venus-D mission, which aims to study possible markers of life on Venus.

It is known that the mission to Venus is scheduled for 2036, but the launch may take place earlier. However, first of all, the plans are to launch the device to the moon.

In May, the Russian Academy of Sciences announced a list of deep space exploration programs — the missions will be included in the national project for the development of the industry. The program includes an expedition to Venus and seven flights to the moon. It is also planned to launch two solar telescopes into Earth orbit. According to Krasnikov, at the first stage, the research will be carried out by automatic complexes that will study the poles of the Moon, where ice reserves are located, and deliver soil samples.
