Economist Ilya Bereznyuk criticized the New Year's food indexes.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, December 9, he said that the discussion of price increases is more a media reason than a real economic indicator. He explained that the Olivier index and similar calculations are a household story based on a narrow set of products and do not allow making serious macroeconomic conclusions.

According to him, the official consumer price index is formed according to a complex formula and takes into account hundreds of goods and services, including housing and communal services, while simplified indexes are easily distorted due to fluctuations in prices for individual products.

Bereznyuk stressed that the Olivier index can be a curious reference point for everyday life, but it is necessary to assess the real economic situation according to Rosstat data. And when planning a holiday budget, according to him, it is worth focusing not on the average "salad costs", but on real prices in stores.

On December 8, it was reported that olivier turned out to be the most expensive among the traditional Russian salads for the New Year. You will have to spend 576 rubles on ingredients. It is twice as cheap to cook mimosa and herring under a fur coat. Stolichny salad turned out to be the most budget-friendly (269 rubles), notes 360.ru .

On December 4, data from the ACORT analytical center showed that the minimum cost of a set of products for Olivier's New Year's salad increased by 2.1% over the year and reached 363 rubles. The calculation was carried out for a family of four using the most affordable products from large chain stores. The total cost decreased due to cheaper seasonal vegetables, eggs and mayonnaise, writes "Moscow 24".

In October, economist Peter Shcherbachenko calculated the Herring under a Fur Coat salad index. So, this year, the cost of one serving of a dish prepared at home will be 81.85 rubles. The total cost of a salad for four people reaches 347.4 rubles. This figure has increased by almost 14% over the year, RT notes.
