The head of the AVVR spoke about the features and prospects of Russian winemaking
Russian winemaking is actively developing, preserving traditional production methods of the 19th century and introducing modern technologies. This was announced on December 9 by the head of the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers (ABVR) Zhanna Belovol at the presentation of the "Wine Guide of Russia" for the 2025-2026 season.
"It seems to me that our traditional feature is in production. <...> It remains the production of traditional methods that have been going on since the 19th century, when we talk about champagne — Lev Golitsyn <...> or Count Mikhail Vorontsov," she said in the press center of MIA Rossiya Segodnya.
According to Belovol, modern methods, including blending, assemblage, biodynamic production and working with wild yeast, are also actively used in Russia. She stressed that the Wine Guide, an annual project of Roskachestvo, stimulates competition among producers, as everyone strives to get into the top of the best wines.
"Today there are opportunities <...> for winemakers to create masterpieces. <...> Today, winemakers have such a good competition among themselves, because everyone wants to be the best today," the head of the AVVR emphasized.
She noted the role of Law No. 468 "On the development of viticulture and winemaking", adopted five years ago, which, according to Belovol, created the legal basis for the growth of the wine industry in Russia. The head of the AWBR added that the development of winemaking, including support for farmers and the introduction of innovations, is ultimately focused on the consumer, who gets access to high-quality domestic wines.
Wines from Russia won medals at the China Wine Competition international tasting competition on November 6. Almost two dozen manufacturers presented their best samples. Massandra's "White Red Stone Nutmeg" received 96 out of 100 points.
