A criminal case was opened against Denis Nikolaev, a judge of the Novgorod Region District Court, on suspicion of accepting a large-scale bribe. This was announced on December 9 by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

"According to the investigation, in the period from April 12 to April 27, 2025, in the city of Veliky Novgorod, Nikolaev received a bribe in the amount of 500 thousand rubles. The funds were transferred to him through an acquaintance and a lawyer of the accused in a criminal case pending against him on intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm," the Investigative Committee's website says.

The report also notes that investigative actions are being carried out in the criminal case aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime and securing the evidence base. The criminal case was initiated on the grounds of a crime under paragraph "b" of Part 5 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Receiving a large-scale bribe").

On the same day, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Gutsan spoke about the initiation of 350 corruption cases in key areas of the state. Gutan added that corrupt officials primarily target areas with large finances — national projects, military needs and infrastructure of new regions.
