Lukashenko approves the formation of a unified energy market with Russia
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has signed a law ratifying the agreement on the formation of a unified electric energy market with Russia. This was announced on December 9 on the website of the President of the Republic.
"The international agreement establishes the legal basis for the formation, functioning and development of the unified electricity market of the Union State, the composition of subjects, their rights and obligations, as well as the procedure for interaction of participants in the purchase and sale of electric energy," the message says.
Before the law was approved in the first readings, Russian Energy Minister Denis Moroz said that the creation of a unified energy market would increase the efficiency and reliability of energy supply, as well as reduce costs associated with the production and transportation of electricity in the future.
"Deeper integration of the energy systems of Belarus and Russia will create prerequisites for convergence of the price level for primary energy resources, which will eventually make it possible to offset the difference in electricity tariffs for consumers of our countries," RIA Novosti quoted the minister as saying.
On December 8, the Russian Embassy announced plans by Moscow and Astana to increase energy cooperation. The embassy also noted that Moscow and Astana have established a trusting relationship of cooperation, within which the risks of pressure from the West are discussed, among other things.
