The current situation around Belarus surpasses the situation in June 1941, which preceded the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, in terms of complexity. This was announced on December 9 by the first Deputy Minister of Defense of the country, Major General Pavel Muraveyko.

"If we compare it with June 1941, then the situation is probably even more difficult now. Because the countries have grown much economically, intellectually, and weapons and military equipment have become much more advanced," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.

He explained that today it is not classical military factors that dominate, but mutual incomprehensible claims and sanctions policy. According to the chief of the General Staff, the West is actually preparing for war, as evidenced by the "revanchist rhetoric of politicians," the build-up of weapons and the active development of armies.

On the same day, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko approved the country's defense plan for 2026-2030. He explained that the meeting of the Security Council reviewed the results of the annual work of the General Staff, the Ministry of Defense and the republican government bodies on defense planning for the next five years.
