The Japanese authorities have denied media reports about the refusal to use the assets of the Russian Federation frozen on its territory. This was reported on December 9 by the Reuters news agency.

"This is an absolute lie," said Atsushi Mimura, Japan's Deputy Finance minister for International Affairs, answering journalists' questions about the waiver of frozen Russian assets.

He stated that Japan is acting in the interests of Ukraine, guided by its own national priorities and considering present-day Ukraine as "East Asia" for Japan.

Earlier, on December 8, Politico reported that the Japanese authorities had abandoned the European Union's plan to confiscate frozen Russian assets and use them to lend to Ukraine. It was noted that the head of the Ministry of Finance of Japan, Satsuki Katayama, announced that it was impossible to use Russian assets for financing for legal reasons.
