The German parliament intends to approve 29 defense orders for a record amount of €52 billion ($61 billion) for the modernization of the Bundeswehr. This was reported on December 9 by the Bloomberg news agency.

"The defense contracts cover a wide range of weapons and services, including €22 billion for basic military equipment and uniforms, €4.2 billion for infantry fighting vehicles, €3 billion for missile defense systems and ammunition for them, and €1.6 billion for satellites," the material says.

The authors of the article report that the decision on large-scale financing of the Bundeswehr was made after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the modern world had completely changed, and now Germany should be able to protect its interests, its citizens and its territory.

On December 5, the Bundestag approved a new law on military service aimed at increasing the size of the German Armed Forces and achieving NATO goals. The bill sets certain deadlines and goals for expanding the size of the Bundeswehr. So, by 2035, the number of military personnel should reach 260 thousand people and at least 200 thousand reservists. Currently, the number of German Armed Forces is 183 thousand people.
