Szijjarto declared the impossibility of safe energy supply to Hungary without Russia
Hungary's secure energy supply cannot be ensured without Russian supplies. This was announced on December 9 by the country's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"By being able to support energy cooperation with Russia, we were able to guarantee the country's energy supply and support lower utility prices in Hungary. We were able to prevent a three—fold increase in energy prices," TASS quoted Szijjarto as saying.
He added that oil and gas continue to flow to Hungary without interruption, but the country has to protect energy channels from external pressure.
According to the minister, Budapest is also facing legal attacks from Brussels, while Kiev is physically attacking elements of the Hungarian oil and gas infrastructure.
Earlier, on October 20, the EU Council approved the proposal of the European Commission (EC) to ban gas purchases in Russia from January 1, 2028. In addition, the EU has also decided to impose a ban on the transit of Russian gas through the union to other countries. This measure will take effect on January 1, 2026.
Szijjarto said on December 3 that Hungary would not agree with the dictate of Brussels, which wants to ban oil and gas supplies from Russia. He stressed that the ban on Russian energy resources is a political, ideological decision that has no relation to reality, and promised to protect Hungary, the Hungarian economy and families from it.
