The Lithuanian government has declared a state of emergency due to balloons from Belarus causing air violations. This was reported on December 9 by the Reuters news agency.

According to the newspaper, the Lithuanian authorities accuse Belarus of allowing smugglers to use weather balloons to transport contraband cigarettes across the border.
