In Thailand, they announced the shelling by the Cambodian Armed Forces
The Armed Forces of Cambodia have begun shelling the territory of Thailand using BM-21 multiple rocket launchers (MLRS). This was announced on December 9 by the second military district of the Thai Land Forces on the Facebook social network (the social network belongs to Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
"The BM-21s arrived and began fighting in the Samte, Fuphi, Chongtatau and Prasattakwai districts," the statement said.
It is noted that the Thai military was forced to respond, because "the threat had to be neutralized, and the lives and property of residents of the border areas were protected."
Khaosod newspaper reported on December 8 that the Cambodian military opened fire on the Anupong military base in Thailand, killing one Thai soldier and injuring two others. The Thai army has called on residents of the border areas of four provinces located along the border with Cambodia to evacuate to shelters amid the threat of escalating clashes.
On the same day, the consular department of the Russian diplomatic mission noted that the Russian Embassy in Bangkok had not received information about injured Russian citizens in connection with the renewed armed conflict on the Thai-Cambodian border.
On November 10, Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anuthin Chanvirakun announced the suspension of the peace agreement with Cambodia, after two Thai soldiers were injured due to a mine explosion on the border. As he noted, the incident shows that hostility at the border has not decreased and further steps under the agreement are impossible until the circumstances are clarified.
