In addition to the head of state, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, took part in it. Vladimir Putin's main statements are in the Izvestia article.

On the priorities of the CSTO

The Russian President said that Russia will do everything to strengthen the CSTO.

"Next year, the Russian Federation will assume the chairmanship of the CSTO. We will certainly do everything to strengthen the organization. And, as I have recently told my colleagues, the heads of state, of course, our work will be a continuation of what was done by our Kyrgyz friends. This will be a complete continuity in all the main areas of our cooperation.: This is strengthening our defense capability, coordinating our policies in the field of military activities and in the field of military-technical cooperation," the Russian president said.

The Russian leader also called the priorities of the CSTO the strengthening of defense capabilities and the coordination of positions in the military and military-technical cooperation.

About terrorism

Vladimir Putin stressed the model law on countering terrorism, which is one of the essential elements of the regulatory framework, without which it is very difficult to make decisions on a practical level. This, the President added, is the merit of the members of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, as well as their colleagues who worked on this normative act.

About the elections

Vladimir Putin added that the Assembly traditionally does a lot to monitor elections, which, in his opinion, is very important in order to ensure the stability of the domestic political agenda.

"There is no need to say how important this is, you understand this perfectly well," the head of state said during the meeting.

He also stressed that the work of the CSTO PA monitoring groups on elections helps the organization's countries to emphasize the legitimacy of political processes.

"The creation of such representative and very reputable monitoring groups helps each of our states to go through these milestones related to election campaigns, and secondly, to emphasize the legitimacy of the political processes taking place in our countries," Putin added.

About working within the framework of the CSTO

Vladimir Putin pointed out that work within the CSTO is not related to the current situation, but has a medium-term planning horizon.

"Our work is not related to the current market situation, but is designed not only for the very near future, but has such a horizon, at least in the medium term," the president said.

About political statements

Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the importance of joint political statements by the CSTO PA. He also stressed that "the statement on ensuring security in a multipolar world is also of great importance and gives a very good signal to the external contour."

CSTO: what is known

The CSTO is an international organization in the field of collective security. It consists of six countries: Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The main goal is to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the participating States.

This year, the organization was chaired by Kyrgyzstan, and the CSTO summit was held in Bishkek at the end of November. Vladimir Putin noted at the time that unification reliably guarantees security and stability in the Eurasian space. "We are not threatening anyone, but we must be ready to repel any aggressive actions," he stressed.

The Russian president in Bishkek also proposed launching a large-scale program to equip the CSTO forces with modern Russian weapons that have been tested in combat conditions. According to him, Moscow is ready to supply the allies with airplanes, helicopters, unmanned systems and other equipment.

In turn, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called for adapting the CSTO to the ever-changing challenges and threats. His Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Japarov stressed that this year work was actively carried out to strengthen the authority of the organization, all planned activities were completed.

From January 1, 2026, the CSTO chairmanship will pass to Russia. It will be held under the motto "Collective security in a multipolar world: common goal — common responsibility." Vladimir Putin noted that Moscow would do everything to maintain continuity in the organization.
