The UK warned officials about the futility of hiding illegal income
Attempts by corrupt officials to hide illegally obtained funds are meaningless. This was announced on December 8 by Chairman of the Investigative Committee (IC) Alexander Bastrykin.
"We explain that attempts to hide the stolen goods are pointless, the law provides mechanisms for the return of these funds. In addition, the so—called foreign partners perfectly understand the nature of the origin of this money and often actively turn it to their advantage," he wrote in an article for RBC.
Bastrykin stressed that one of the main priorities is to prevent corruption and reduce the risks of such crimes. This year, investigators and department heads have been almost twice as likely to visit labor collectives in order to use concrete examples to tell officials about the consequences of corrupt activities. In total, such meetings were held 828 times.
The head of the department also noted that science and technological progress provide new opportunities for the investigation. In the future, improved devices may appear in service that can unambiguously determine the presence of traces of any crimes in a person's memory, including corruption.
On December 3, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the fight against corruption in Russia is conducted systematically and regularly. He also stressed that "different countries and associations are fighting this evil with varying effectiveness."
