Investigators have stopped the activities of a group of tax document falsifiers in the North-Western region. This was reported on December 8 in the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) in St. Petersburg.

"The investigation established that the criminal group operated on the territory of the city of St. Petersburg and the city of Moscow, as well as other subjects of the Russian Federation. The income from illegal activities was estimated in the tens of millions of rubles," the statement on the UK's website says.

It is noted that representatives of the group provided fake invoices and tax returns on behalf of fake legal entities to the tax authorities of the Russian Federation and sold them to beneficiary organizations.

Employees of the Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Article 173.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Sale of knowingly false invoices").

The members of the group were detained as part of the investigation. Investigators conducted searches in the places of residence of gang members, as well as in office premises in several regions of the Russian Federation, thanks to which they were able to find equipment for making forged documents and other items. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the arrested.

Earlier, on August 4, Sergei Pastukhov, the former deputy head of the Department for the Redistribution of property between public legal entities of the Property Relations Department of the Russian Ministry of Defense, was sentenced to four years in a penal colony for abuse of office. It was clarified that from 2018 to 2019, with the help of forged documents, he transferred state property in the form of a land plot in the Leningrad Region, which was owned by other persons. The total damage to the Ministry of Defense amounted to more than 80 million rubles.
