During the New Year holidays, the usual rules of administrative legislation apply, and citizens can receive fines for violations of public order, silence, fire safety regulations, the use of pyrotechnics, drinking alcohol in public places, and even for illegally cutting down Christmas trees. This was announced on December 8 by Sofya Lukinova, head of the legal department of VMT Consult, in a conversation with Izvestia.

"Illegal cutting of coniferous trees qualifies as a violation of forest legislation. For citizens, the fine ranges from 3 to 4 thousand rubles. If the damage caused is assessed as significant, in some cases it is possible to apply criminal liability with a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles," she said.

The lawyer pointed out that the launch of pyrotechnics is strictly regulated and is allowed only in specially designated places in compliance with fire safety standards. Violation entails an administrative fine of an average of 2 to 5 thousand rubles, but in some regions the amount may be higher. Responsibility also comes when fireworks are used in courtyards of dense residential buildings, near parking lots, playgrounds and in other places where pyrotechnics are prohibited.

According to the expert, drinking alcohol in public places remains one of the most common holiday violations. The law prohibits the consumption of alcohol on the streets, in courtyards, parks, squares and other open spaces. A fine of 500 to 1.5 thousand rubles is provided for such an action, and in some regions liability measures are increased, especially in the central areas of cities and at mass celebrations.
