The defense of Marina Kohal, who was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for the murder of her husband, rapper Andy Cartwright (Alexander Yushko), did not receive a verdict. Lawyer Irina Skurtu informed Izvestia about this on December 8.

"I have filed a preliminary appeal against disagreement with the verdict of the court. It will be written in full when I have the verdict in my hands, I will analyze it," the lawyer said.

According to her, she visited Kohal in prison, and she is determined to continue fighting and defend her innocence.

"She (Kohal. She was shocked by the verdict, but she pulled herself together and will continue to fight. Our position has not changed, we consider her innocent," Skurtu added.

Yushko's dismembered body was found at the end of July 2020 in an apartment in St. Petersburg. According to the musician's wife, he died of a drug overdose, and she dismembered the corpse to hide the "inglorious" death of the rapper from fans. However, no traces of prohibited substances were found in the body of the deceased.

The rapper's wife was arrested and imprisoned, and later, in October 2021, she was released under house arrest. In April 2022, the Prosecutor's office of the Central District of St. Petersburg approved the indictment and referred the case to the court.

The rapper's mother-in-law, Elena Kohal, was also involved in the case, but her persecution was stopped due to the lack of corpus delicti in her actions. In January 2023, Elena Kohal sued more than 500 thousand rubles from the investigation for an unsubstantiated case. Marina Kohal was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison on November 21. She pleaded not guilty. The state prosecution requested 13 years in prison for her.
