The prosecutor requested a term of absence for ex-deputy Yashin.
The state prosecution asked Ilya Yashin, a former Moscow municipal deputy (recognized in Russia as a foreign agent and included in the Rosfinmonitoring list of terrorists and extremists), who is accused of evading the duties of a foreign agent, to be found guilty and sentenced to 1 year and 11 months in a general regime penal colony in absentia. This was reported on December 8 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the judicial district of the Justice of the peace.
"Yashin's guilt is confirmed by evidence. He was brought to administrative responsibility twice during the year," the prosecutor said.
She also petitioned for the deprivation of the right to conduct business on the Internet.
Yashin himself, through his lawyer, sent a letter to the court, where he indicated that he did not consider himself guilty, and he himself was in exile in the European Union (EU).
On December 1, 2023, the court fined and decided to find Ilya Yashin guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 4 of Article 19.34 of the Administrative Code and impose an administrative fine of 45 thousand rubles on him.
Later, on June 20, 2024, the Moscow City Court held a hearing on the protocol on violation of the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent in relation to Yashin. The court rejected his appeal. In December of the same year, the Interior Ministry put the politician on the federal wanted list.
In August 2024, a large-scale prisoner exchange took place between Russia, Belarus and Western countries. There were 24 people on the list, eight of them Russians, who flew home and were personally greeted by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Another 16 exchanged are citizens of Russia or Western countries, as well as persons with dual citizenship who traveled from Russia and Belarus to other countries. Yashin was one of them.
