On December 8, Sergei Mironov, the leader of the Fair Russia — For Truth (SRDP) party and a State Duma deputy, said that the amount of tax deduction for housing purchases was outdated and should be increased 2.5 times.
At the moment, the maximum amount of property tax deduction is 2 million rubles for the purchase of an apartment or housing construction and 3 million rubles for mortgage interest. Thus, with a personal income tax rate of 13%, you can receive a tax refund in the amount of 260 thousand rubles for the purchase of housing and 390 thousand rubles for mortgage interest.
"I am sure that these standards do not meet modern realities and need serious revision. The maximum deduction was set 10 years ago. During this time, the average price for a primary has increased by about 2.5 times," he said in an interview with TASS.
Mironov added that the deduction for the purchase of housing and the deduction for mortgage interest are independent of each other and can be combined, reaching a maximum amount of 650 thousand rubles. The right to a property tax deduction can be used only once in a lifetime — until the entire amount of the deduction is received.
