Nigeria has secured the release of 100 of the more than 200 schoolchildren who were abducted from a Catholic school as a result of an armed attack. This was announced on December 7 by the Nigerian TV channel Channels TV.
"The federal government has reportedly secured the release of 100 school children abducted from St. Mary's Private Catholic Elementary and Secondary School in Papiri," the publication says.
The Associated Press (AP) reported on November 22 that armed men attacked a Catholic school in the western region of Nigeria and abducted more than 200 schoolchildren and 12 teachers. According to the agency, the attackers captured 215 students, as well as 12 teachers from St. Mary's School, a Catholic institution in the Papiri community of the local government of Agwar.
