Before traveling with a dog, you should study the conditions of check-in at the hotel. Alina Gaisina, a dog handler and specialist of Russia's first social network for pets and their owners, Bup, told about this on December 7.

"The first thing to do is to call the hotel and find out the details. Many accept only cats and dogs of decorative breeds weighing up to 5-10 kg. Exotic and large animals are often banned," the expert said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

In addition, she advised to clarify separately whether it is possible to leave a dog alone in a room without a carrier or cage. Usually, large dogs should be leashed and muzzled on the territory of the hotel, but in any case, the owner always bears full responsibility for the pet's behavior and possible damage.

The animal must also have documents: a veterinary passport with vaccination marks is required, and sometimes a health certificate and parasite treatments are requested. This is important because without documents, the hotel has the right to refuse to check in.

The dog handler recommends evaluating the hotel's infrastructure before booking — to check if there are places for walking on the territory, if there are noisy roads and fireworks areas nearby. It is important to study the reviews of pet owners: from them you can find out how the staff reacts to possible noise or fur in the rooms. And in order for the pet to feel comfortable in a new place, Gaisina advises taking things familiar to him on a trip, such as a couch or favorite toys.

On December 5, Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, spoke about the importance of a properly adjusted winter dog diet. He stressed that any revision of nutrition should be done under the supervision of a veterinarian. The specialist explained that nutrition should take into account the pet's activity level — in most dogs it decreases in winter, but in sled breeds, on the contrary, it increases.
