The PCT called the situation on the Thai border not affecting the safety of Russians.
The tension on the Thai-Cambodian border has no impact on the safety of Russian tourists. This was reported to journalists on December 7 by the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT).
"The situation on the border of Thailand and Cambodia currently has no serious impact on the safety of Russians traveling in these countries," RIA Novosti reports.
Experts clarified that the border areas, including Surin, Sisaket, Buriram and Ubon Ratchathani, are not major tourist areas and are far from popular resorts such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui and Krabi.
According to them, there are almost no group tourists from Russia in the border areas, and individual travelers make up a minimal part. The PCT stressed that the situation in the main tourist spots remains calm, the infrastructure is functioning normally and there are no restrictions for travelers.
On the same day, the Thai army called on residents of the border areas of four provinces located along the border with Cambodia to evacuate to shelters amid the threat of escalating clashes. It was clarified that this was due to the threat of escalation of clashes at the border.
Prior to that, on October 26, it was reported that the peace deal between Thailand and Cambodia, signed at the ASEAN summit in the presence of US President Donald Trump, was supposed to help de-escalate the conflict and strengthen trust between the countries. However, on November 10, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the suspension of the peace agreement with Cambodia, after two Thai soldiers were injured as a result of a mine explosion on the border. According to him, the incident shows that hostility at the border has not decreased and further steps under the agreement are impossible until the circumstances are clarified.
