In his speech at the Reagan Defense Forum, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth harshly criticized the policies of previous American administrations and declared the end of the era of "utopian idealism." This was reported by the Politico newspaper on December 6.

"The era of American utopian idealism is over. Down with idealistic utopianism. Long live hard realism," said Hegseth.

He also stressed that Washington should focus on respecting the interests of the United States, and not engage in "building democracies, obscure wars and climate change." According to the Minister of War, Europe needs to take care of its own security and increase defense spending.

He also suggests abandoning open confrontation with China and starting to respect its power. At the same time, Hegset praised some US allies such as Germany, Poland and the Republic of Korea for increasing defense spending.

Earlier, on December 6, it was reported that the new US National Security Strategy does not include criticism of Russia. The article notes that the priorities in the strategy are the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and the restoration of the "greatness of Europe."
