The Benin Republican Guard detained a group of soldiers who announced an attempted coup on national television in the morning. This was announced on December 7 by 24 Heures au Benin.

According to the portal, the rebels' speech was quickly suppressed, and they themselves were blocked in the national television building, which later included guard units. The publication clarifies that the attempt at destabilization did not lead to a change in power, and the constitutional order continues to operate.

President Patrice Talon, as 24 Heures au Benin points out, has not lost control of the situation, and the participants in the rebellion have already been handed over to the security forces.

Earlier in the day, the military in Benin, which seized control of national television, announced that they had removed President Patrice Talon from office. In addition, Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Tigri, who led the takeover of television, declared himself chairman of the military reconstruction committee.

On December 7, the Russian Embassy in Benin called on Russian citizens to "stay in their homes" until the situation is clarified in connection with the military's statement about the seizure of power.
