A peace agreement on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict is "very close." On December 7, the Reuters news agency reported with reference to the special envoy of the President of the United States Donald Trump for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.

"The outgoing [from his post] special representative of US President Donald Trump in Ukraine said that an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine is "very close," the material says.

It is clarified that the future agreement now depends on two key issues to be resolved: the future of Donbass and the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). According to Kellogg, if these two issues are resolved, then everything else "will work out pretty well."

On the same day, Verkhovna Rada deputy Roman Kostenko said that Ukraine should "stall for time as much as possible" in its dialogue with Washington, as current circumstances make Kiev's position much weaker. He stressed that Washington attaches special importance to the battles for Krasnoarmeysk, considering them as a critical milestone.

Prior to that, on December 6, the US State Department reported that the United States had agreed with the Ukrainian delegation on the framework of security measures. It was noted that the Americans and Ukrainians also discussed the necessary means of deterrence to maintain lasting peace.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said on December 5 that Russia was ready to show flexibility to find peaceful solutions to resolve the crisis, despite its clear position. The spokesman also expressed the hope that the negotiation process of the two countries would pick up pace.
