In Switzerland, 48% of citizens support the People's Party's proposal to limit the country's population to 10 million people. This was reported by Bloomberg on December 7.

The People's Party was able to obtain permission to hold a vote on this issue, as it gained more than 100,000 signatures under the petition with its proposal, the material says.

According to the party's proposal, Switzerland will have to withdraw from international agreements, including the free movement agreement with the European Union, when the population reaches 10 million.

The author of the article notes that the vote may take place as early as June 2026, but the government has not yet confirmed this information.

At the moment, foreigners make up about 25% of the Swiss population, which fuels anti-immigrant sentiments, including regarding the hiring of foreigners by multinational companies. Proponents of population restriction are also concerned about rising housing and transport prices.

On November 25, Louis, the son of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, proposed organizing a lottery for legal migrants, according to which 10% of them would have to serve in the army. He noted that the migration problem is very serious for his country, adding that there are other crisis areas, such as the lack of unity among the population and the difficulty of assimilation through the army. In his opinion, military service can be an effective solution to the problem of petty crime. His initiative suggests that every young man who has committed a minor offense should serve.
