The President of VARPE assessed the prospect of resuming saury production in Russia
The resumption of saury production in Russia will benefit both fish processing enterprises and buyers, who will welcome this news. This was announced on December 7 by German Zverev, President of the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE).
It is specified that at the end of November, the head of Rosrybolovstvo, Ilya Shestakov, announced the likely resumption of saury fishing in the Russian exclusive economic zone in the coming years.
"We pay great attention to this, because the resumption of the saury fishery, which has been rapidly declining, has been reset, in fact, since the late 90s, the resumption of fishing would be very beneficial for enterprises and would be perceived by the market and consumers," Zverev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Zverev, saury is one of the few fish that enjoys a consistently good reputation on the Russian market.
On September 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to develop fish supplies to all regions of the country. According to him, Russians don't consume enough fish yet. In addition, the Russian leader drew attention to the fact that the Far East is a key region for the fishing industry. This region produces 75% of Russia's total fish production.
