The Interior Ministry told about a new fraudulent scheme with training courses

Fraudsters in Russia actively deceive citizens by offering to take training courses on behalf of IT specialists, and then threatening criminal liability for financing prohibited organizations and embezzlement of money, posing as employees of the Gosuslugi portal, banks and special services. This was announced on December 7 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

According to TASS, at first, a potential victim is called, posing as IT specialists, and offered to take courses. During communication, they coax a code out of an SMS, ostensibly to register on the platform. Then the victim is contacted by the false employees of the Gosuslugi portal, reporting the hacking of the account.

Later, the scammers start calling, posing as pseudo-employees of the bank and asking about the financial history, while threatening to steal funds. The next call comes from an alleged intelligence officer who accuses the victim of financing banned organizations and Ukrainian military formations, and also reports the threat of criminal prosecution for both her and her relatives.

In a panic, the person begins to follow the instructions of the scammers. He transfers money to a virtual card in a mobile application, and then goes to the bank's office to transfer funds to the account specified by the scammers. After the transfer, the scammers report that the money has passed, but they will undergo a "check on the legality of the bills."

Attackers turn predictions for 2026 into bait for victims

On the same day, Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, federal coordinator of the United Russia party's Digital Russia project, said that on the eve of the New Year holidays, fraudsters began sending dangerous "New Year cards" to Russians that may contain malicious files for identity theft. He added that sending "postcards" with malware is one of the most popular techniques: malicious files can be disguised in videos and images, as well as activated after clicking on a link.
