Social Network X (ex. Twitter has blocked the advertising account of the European Commission (EC) after receiving a fine of 120 million euros for violating the European Union (EU) law on digital services. This was announced on December 7 by Nikita Beer, head of the X product department.

According to him, the EC representatives independently logged into a long-unused account, where they posted material that violated the rules of the social network.

"As you may know, X believes that everyone should have an equal voice on our platform. However, it seems that you believe that the rules should not apply to your account," Bira said in a message on X.

On December 5, the European Commission fined the social network X 120 million euros for violating EU digital rules in accordance with the Digital Services Act (DSA). The reason was the deceptive design of the "blue checkmark", the lack of transparency of the advertising repository, and the inability to provide researchers with access to public data. It was clarified that Policy X, which is related to the provision of a "check mark" for "verified accounts," misleads users, since anyone can pay for it.
