On December 6, US President Donald Trump announced that the US Armed Forces (AF) would soon begin attacking ground targets as part of the fight against drug cartels in Latin America.

"We've taken a very tough stance, and people like it. The volume of drug shipments to our country by sea has decreased by 94%," Trump said during his speech at a reception at the US State Department.

At the same time, the head of the White House said that the United States has information about the location of targets. According to him, about 300,000 people have died due to drugs in the country over the past year.

"This is a terrible war, and we will not allow this to happen," concluded the American leader.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said on December 2 that American attacks on ground targets in Colombia would mean a declaration of war. He noted that he did not want to interrupt the two-century-old diplomatic relations with the United States.

On October 20, Trump announced that he believed Petro was involved in the drug situation in Colombia getting "out of control." He called the Colombian leader crazy and said that Washington was not going to put up with the alleged mass production and export of cocaine.
