The Russian Ministry of Defense showed footage of the Russian Armed Forces practicing camouflage from the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Units of snipers of the 25th Combined Arms Army of the Zapad group of forces are practicing methods of camouflaging positions to counter the reconnaissance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with thermal imaging optics in the special military operation zone in the Krasnolimansk area. The relevant footage was provided by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 7.

According to the Defense Ministry, the training of such specialists requires long-term training. In modern conditions, the main task for a sniper is the ability to remain undetected by a UAV for many hours.

The main difficulty in implementing this is natural human thermoregulation. The preparation of the sniper "laying" is carried out using a set of measures to actively reduce its own thermal visibility. For this purpose, natural thermal masking methods are used, when positions are equipped against the background of existing thermal anomalies of the terrain.

"In order for no one to see the place, it must be well camouflaged, including from a thermal imager and from the enemy's eye," says a sniper with the call sign Cascade.

Snipers' positions are equipped with special multi-layered shelters and, using thermal camouflage techniques, the fighter remains undetected for more than 24 hours, ensuring the fulfillment of tasks for continuous monitoring of the terrain, the Russian Defense Ministry noted.
