- An action against the policy of the Austrian government has begun in the center of Vienna.
An anti-government demonstration against the policies of the Austrian authorities took place in the center of Vienna, opposite the Chancellor's office building. The action was organized by a movement that advocates direct democracy, neutrality and a peaceful foreign policy. This was reported on December 6 by a RIA Novosti correspondent.
It is specified that the gathering of participants began at 13:00 local time (15:00 Moscow time) on Balhausplatz Square. They advocate maintaining neutrality in Austrian politics and opposing the country's accession to NATO. One of the banners bears the slogan "Yes to neutrality and peace, no to NATO."
The protesters also criticized the actions of the authorities of Austria and the European Union (EU), which, in their opinion, put the economy on a war footing, which could lead to a major war. The organizer of the demonstration noted that this could drag the world into World War III.
In addition, among the demands of the protesters is the resignation of the current government.
"We pay money to America. We pay not only for their old weapons, but also for their expensive gas. In the economic war with Russia, the EU has decided to reduce or not buy gas from Russia at all, and now we are buying American gas at five times the price. This is the reality," the organizer noted.
Earlier, on October 18, thousands of people took to the streets of Vienna to take part in a demonstration for a neutral Austria. The demonstrators carried placards with the words "Peace to Europe", "Let's create a world without weapons!", "No NATO!". The city center was partially blocked, public transport was operating intermittently, and motorists were stuck in traffic jams.
Earlier, on July 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called an insult to the Austrians the statements of Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger about her readiness to abandon neutrality and join NATO because of the alleged Russian threat. According to a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, it has become the norm for the political leadership of Austria and the European Union (EU) countries to disregard the opinion of their people.
