- In the United States, an 18-year-old student was arrested for setting fire to a sleeping passenger on the subway.
Student Hiram Carrero was arrested in New York on charges of setting fire to a sleeping passenger in the city subway. This was reported on December 6 by The Mirror newspaper.
The incident occurred last night in Manhattan. According to investigators, the young man set fire to a piece of paper and threw it next to a 56-year-old man who was sleeping. Upon waking up, the man was engulfed in flames, but managed to get out onto the platform of the next station, where the police noticed him and extinguished the flames.
The victim suffered severe burns and was hospitalized in critical condition, but later his condition stabilized.
The suspect, who cares for a disabled mother and has no criminal record, caused confusion among the judge, as it is difficult to understand what could have motivated the student to set people on fire at three in the morning.
Carrero was taken into custody. He faces up to 25 years in prison. The court hearing in the case is scheduled for January 4.
Earlier, on October 1, it became known that a man died in Munich as a result of an arson attack on an apartment building during a family conflict. Explosive devices were also found in the building, and special forces were called to the scene to neutralize them.
