The Ministry of Finance has proposed using a Qr code from Public Services instead of a passport for travel

The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation has proposed to expand the number of cases when it will be possible to show a passport in the form of a QR code from "Public Services": for example, to use it when boarding an intercity bus, train or plane. This was announced on December 5 by the press service of the Ministry.

"Electronic documents will operate on a par with paper documents. If desired, they can be used in simple everyday situations," the press service quoted TASS as saying.

The agency added that at the first stage of implementation, the technology will be available for identity verification in stores, cinemas and museums, when entering the office and sending or receiving parcels. It is specified that in the future, the QR code can be used in mobile operator salons, in private medical organizations, when receiving services at the MFC and when checking into hotels.

On December 5, the Russian Ministry of Digital Development decided to phase out confirmation of entry to the Gosuslugi portal via SMS due to the growing number of fraud cases. It is clarified that so far this measure applies only to mobile devices. If users decide to use the desktop version of the site, they will be able to continue receiving the access code via SMS.
